Prof. Dr. Suchatchawee Suwansawat, the president of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and the specialist in construction technology and tunnels. 

“…The rescue teams attempt to drill the cave at the front, try to find the hollows believed that they can be connected to the cavern inside the cave. Because if it is drilled and can find a water cavern, then the water can be pumped out to reduce the water level inside the cave. the lower water, the more chance of the rescue team for going deeper. As time goes by, how they live safely? What they eat. Can they know many people are finding them? 

Geotechnical Engineering Specialist have to find another way to help. they have to go up the mountain to find the suitable point to drill down. What's this for? It is to contact survivors. The most important way to drill, this is like the case in Chile 8 years ago.  For the Thai case, we may drill a little only about 5 inches wide.  And now the experts are trying to find such position. The first position is the only expectation. It will be assumed that the first drill will be close to the expected position that all 13 survivors will be in such area around. If they stay around they will to go closer and send some survival messages. It is the psychological way to let them know that they are being looked for. Let the first drill done not too deep. It should be about 200 meters deep.  This is not a drill for taking them up but the drill to send the light device, capsule food, and communication down to them first. We have to find proper crater to bring the rescue experts down to be able to help them.

The crater around the cave is not like a house chimney, or an elevator, or a staircase, because the impact of water erosion, it may have several bending ways. The drill must be done while the cave crater must be found at the same.

we have to do everything helpful, not to do each step of 1, 2, and 3, all must be parallelly done. In front of the cave, water pumping must be done. That's the main way. The objectives of the first drill are to psychologically communicate to him to let them know that we are finding them, to send the light device and food down, and to communicate. It could be done by a geologist. At the same time, the police must try the way to find the crater to drop some food or other helpful things. Maybe the polices can go down before the seal does. The drill may not be done only a single hole. For the Chile case, the first hole was not helpful for finding the survivors suddenly, but they could hear the drilling sound and sent their message of survival up first. The second and the third were done and could help the 33 trapped underground workers finally….”
